Thi collection is primarily genealogical correspondence on the Upshaw, Herndon, and allied families. Also contains published records of the Ocmulgee, Friendship, and Yellow River Primitive Baptist Associations and transcribed minutes of the Beulah Baptist Church. Original documents include deeds, Bible records with slave births, guardianship papers, and a teacher certificate and contract, most from Walton County, Georgia.

This series contains a brief newsletter of the Department of Offender Rehabilitation published "with the aim of promoting public awareness of corrections, probation and parole in Georgia." A typical issue might contain news releases on (1) work-study programs offered and utilized by department personnel, (2) community facilities, (3) personnel changes, (4) the recidivism rate, (5) professional meetings and conventions, (6) awards and (7) personnel illnesses and deaths.

This series contains a collection of publications which were prepared to fill a specific informational need but which are not serial in nature. Most outline various programs offered by the department or by the several institutions of the penal system. The formats vary greatly from that of a four page leaflet to relatively lengthy booklets.

This series consists of oversized items too large to fit in the regular case files. Usually this material is of various exhibits submitted as evidence in the cases and hence the series title. Please see Series 2 of this sub-group for the case files to which these evidence files relate.

This series consists of half-page photocopied forms containing the decisions reached by the Court of Appeals in regards to cases appealed to it from a lower court. Usually, the decisions are one line summaries and include: (1) case number; (2) date of decision; (3) case name (plaintive vs. defendant); and, (4) the order of the Court as to whether the appeal is denied, transferred, withdrawn, or other consideration.

This series consists of a bound ledger showing paid court costs. Specifically, the volume lists in columnar fashion: (1) date - year, month and day; (2) party paying court costs; (3) case number, and (4) amount paid. The volume also shares space with a page or two for a contingent fund and costs transferred to the Supreme Court. For additional materials relating to Court of Appeals cases, please see Series 5 and 6 and Series 8 through 11 of this sub-group.

The first part of the volume contains entries for gristmill, lumber mill, and ferry crossing services, 1819 - 1821, arranged by name of account. Next are 1825 - 1827 entries for sales of liquor and general merchandise, arranged chronologically. The end of the volume contains 1820 entries for sales of liquor.

The volume includes 1870-1871 minutes of the Central Georgia District Agricultural and Mechanics Fair; several political essays by Crawford; some Crawford genealogical data; and the index to account entries, now missing, of Crawford's law practice. Probably Baldwin County, Georgia.

This series contains original unbound marriage records which consist of: (1) licenses (2) certifications of marriage (4) consent from parent or guardian forms (5) waivers of parent's or guardian's consent. Ordinarily, the information on the licenses includes the: (1) name of groom (2) name of bride (3) date license was issued (4) date of marriage (5) name of Ordinary, and (6) name of person performing the wedding ceremony.

Brochures of the college and examples of its method of shorthand, the Crichton method. Also included are two letters and some clippings relating to Charles Reid.

This series is comprised of the minutes of the Georgia Organized Crime Prevention Council. The minutes are brief and formal, and they do not summarize the contents of the discussions. The minutes refer to many subjects including among others a centralized crime information sharing data bank and network, loan sharking, narcotics, strengthening State revenue laws, and block, planning, and discretionary grants of the Law Enforcement Administration Agency.
